Our history. Since 1958 Making the change.
Mercedes Cárdenas was the founder of Hogares Club Michín. A brave, enterprising, generous woman with a heart willing to give without receiving.
It was the year 1958; After 10 years, the effects of Bogotazo on April 9, 1948, were still felt. Many people, including young children, used to live in the streets of Bogotá. They asked for alms and walked around looking for ways to survive.
One day, Mercedes watched as one of them was mistreated by a man who kicked him to refuse to give alms to that little one. That day Mercedes felt she had to do something, also she felt she could not let this kind of injustice continue to happen.
So with a little group of friends, she started picking up children from the street taking them home, giving them food and teaching them. Today, that dream is over 60 years old and has served more than 20,000 people.
A dream, a feeling that has transformed and will continue to transform the lives of girls, boys and families forgotten by society, but loved by each of the people who are part of Hogares Club Michín
